How To Set Up an iTV-Studio for Live Streaming
What Goes in the iTV-Studio Case (we may need an accessory bag?)
- Power cord
- Laptop Power adapter? (but demos can run on battery?)
- Ethernet cable, 3ft.
- HDMI cable, 3ft.
- USB cable (A to A), 3ft.
- Wired or Wireless Mouse
- Media Drive (2TB)
- Laptop
- AOC USB Monitor, in soft case, on top to protect the screen
Setting Up the ASUS Laptop
- Name the laptop, e.g., iTV-0005-1
- Decline Microsoft account.
- User name and password, e.g., iTV Studio, blank (no) password
- Run Windows Update
- Download and install ATEM software (also installs the Switcher Operations Manual).
- Download and install DisplayLink Driver (for the AOC USB monitor).
- Install a VNC Server for remote maintenance?
Setting Up the Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio
- Connect 3' USB cable from Studio to Laptop
- Connect 3' Ethernet cable from Studio to Laptop
- Connect 3' HDMI cable from Studio (Input 4) to Laptop (for Media Server and Skype Remote)
- Power up the iTV-Studio (plug in AC power 110-240V)
- The Switcher Panel software should appear on the laptop screen.
- If you get the message "No Switcher Connected," you must use ATEM Setup Utility to assign IP 192.168.10.50 (or use 240, the default?) to the ATEM (via USB)
- Open the ATEM Setup Utility.
- Enter the new IP address.
- The "Apply" button will become active.
- Press Apply (the new address is written to memory in the ATEM).
- Power cycle the ATEM.
- The Switcher Panel software should appear on the laptop screen.
- If multiple ATEMs are on the same network, they will need separate IP addresses.
- Check in ATEM preferences that switcher has IP 192.168.10.50 or 240 (via Ethernet).
- Test that you have control by switching between inputs.
- Optionally label your inputs (e.g., Media Server instead of Camera 4).
- Configure your inputs 3 and 4 for SDI or HDMI (a Media Server on input 4 needs HDMI).
- Update the ATEM software (if necessary).

- Set WPA type to WPA2
- Set WPA name (SSID), e.g., iTV-XXXX (This becomes the iTV-Studio's WiFi name)
- Go to Wireless > Security
- Set the WPA PassPhrase - iTVWAP77 (the same for all iTV Studios)
- If you cannot log in to the router, you may have to press its reset button and start over

How to Set Up iTV-Studio Sound
There are several ways to get sound into iTV-Studio
- The first is to input sound through a camcorder's mini-stereo microphone jack (for low-cost camcorders, currently only available in Canon models
- Using a mini-stereo to two mono jacks (tip and ring), you can feed different sound sources into each track,
- For example, a shotgun or lav mic on one track and a wireless receiver or surface mic on the other
- You may run sound sources into an audio mixer, then feed balanced audio a long distance before converting it to an unbalanced stereo feed, for example with a BeachTek DX4 at the camcorder
You might also record an independent digital track (e.g., with a TASCAM DS10), for backup purposes in post-production.
An SD Card in the camcorder also provides an ISO sound recording from the individual camera's POV.
iTV-Studio MoniCams have a 1/4-20 mounting point for a single microphone. They can be outfitted with a dual shoe mount.
iTV-AV Rigs have two shoe mounts.
iTV-Wireless camcorders send sound in the HDMI signal to the iTV-Studio.
Note:
Livestream does not transcode a single resolution stream. We get 720p max on ASUS laptop, similar to Livestream Broadcaster's red box encoder. YouTube Live takes one high resolution stream (1080p) and generates the adaptive bitrate streams for all devices (see the bitrate table here).
